Dentonville ~ Kiln Lane, St Helens
A former residence of the Pilkington Family, Dentonville was donated to the YWCA by Lady Pilkington for their charitable activities and turned from one single dwelling to a property of multiple occupancy incorporating 16 bedsits for young women in need of emergency accommodation.
The property was then transferred to a Manchester-based housing association who continued to use it for similar purposes until it became surplus to requirements in around 2010.
Alphabet Homes acquired the property and with the appropriate planning consents, reconfigured the building to create 4 fully modernised individual 3 and 4 bedroom family dwellings, the jewel in the crown of which was Dentonville itself.
These magnificent properties were restored to their former glory and incorporated many of the original Victorian features including tessellated ceramic flooring, stained glass windows, antique iron surround fireplaces, and high ceilings with feature ornate plaster covings.
Like many of Alphabet’s developments, local residents applauded our creativity of design and sympathetic architecture which has consistently enhanced the local streetscape.
